If You Get a Medical Bill, Contact PacFed Immediately
Hospitals and doctors within your medical plan care for thousands of patients who generate millions of dollars in claims annually. It shouldn’t be surprising that a bill is occasionally sent out in error.
You should never get a bill for services that are authorized. If a bill from a doctor or medical facility arrives in the mail, then it may be a mistake and PacFed can fix it.
What to do if you get a bill
Call PacFed at (800) 753-0222 and fax the bill right away to PacFed Claims Assistance at (818) 245-1301. The PacFed claims fax line is a confidential and secure fax line.
So the call is made to PacFed and the issue is over, right? Not necessarily! Once that’s done, another erroneous bill or statement may arrive. If that happens to you, fax the new bill to PacFed, using the same number. Even if you think the bill is a duplicate of one that you previously sent to PacFed, send it to us again. We would rather have a duplicate bill in the file than let a bill go unpaid.
Bills are sent out all the time, and just because a PacFed service professional is taking care of your first bill, you shouldn’t assume we know about the new bill you just received.
Don’t ignore a bill, but don’t pay it either
Reactions to occasional billing mistakes range from apathy to panic. The most appropriate reaction is somewhere in between. Although we don’t usually recommend that you pay the bill, neither do we recommend that you ignore it.
After all, if the mistake isn’t brought to the attention of the proper parties, it could be turned over to a collection agency and your credit could be adversely affected.
Once you get a bill, even if PacFed is working on your case, send it in immediately!
And if you get another bill, send that in, too.
